Thursday, Dec. 20 – LOVE

Today’s Scripture:
Psalm 25:6-10
Galatians 2:20

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us…..

In this day of broken families, one parent is often mistakenly perceived by children as being the most loving even though the other parent bears most of the heavy responsibility of child rearing. It often takes maturity for a child to realize who is truly demonstrating love for them. Recently, this resonated in our own lives with new meaning when we began going through some difficult times.

Life had been going relatively well, subconsciously creating a false sense of self-sufficiency that was promoting spiritual “dryness!”  Then things changed!  It was following a desperate prayer for help and wisdom that we realized that our “dry” quiet times from which we had asked for relief… were over! We opened God’s Word and found Him once again ministering directly to our needs. We turned on the radio to the words of the song, “All your anxiety, all your cares, take to the mercy seat, leave them there. Never a burden He does not share…never a Friend like Jesus!”   God was personally ministering and encouraging us once again through His Word and song as we struggled.  We found ourselves actually thanking Him FOR the struggles because we enjoyed the sweet comfort of His Presence once again!

Just like the parent who is taking the harder path for the good of their child, God also allows us to experience the hard times for our benefit, to humble us, to draw us closer to Himself, and to let us know His Love in a deeper way.  Psalm 25:6-10 tells of His tender mercies, His loving-kindness, His willingness to teach sinners in the way, His guidance, and His paths of mercy and truth for His followers.  All of these display His Love and desire to be our closest Friend.  He then asks us to share His Love with those around us by replicating His patience, kindness, gentleness, and forgiveness.

Christmas reminds us that our Heavenly Father loved us so much that He sent His Son, our Creator, to leave Heaven and step across the stars to Bethlehem. He endured 33 years without a furlough! On the cross, Christ bore the heavy load of our sins, and made it possible for us to become God’s children, able to enjoy the sweet Presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  What a Gift!!

God, thank you for being such a loving Father!  Give us the maturity to realize that even our struggles can have value as they uniquely prepare us for the blessings of Your Presence …blessings that can bring fresh meaning, perspective, and healing to our lives.
