Monday, Dec. 9 – Peace

Today’s Scripture:
Psalm 62:1-8; Matthew 11:25-30

“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.
He alone is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Fortress, I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 62:5-6

Peace, what a simple word that can have such a complex meaning in our lives. During this time we celebrate the peace that came with the birth of Jesus Christ. I’m thankful for all of the reminders that proclaim the wonderful gift that we haven been given. Many songs we sing this Christmas season declare that Jesus Christ is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. How many times have we actually pondered all of the amazing names of our Lord Jesus?

Life can be full of so many objects that rob us of our peace. I find myself falling into the hands of worry, even over the smallest of issues, which causes me to lose my peace that is found in Christ. This semester in particular, I have found myself worrying to the point where I can’t focus and lose sleep. I become robbed of any form of peace and focus on all of the “what if’s” in life rather than remembering “He is.”

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is giving us an invitation to “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Through His promises, we remember that the peace of God is the foundation that we have for any kind of peace in our own lives. Daily, I’m learning how to rest in Him and He will give me that peace because HE IS faithful. HE IS the One that sustains us, that carries us, and gives us that everlasting peace. We can’t pick up Jesus’ yoke, if we don’t set everything else down. I’m thankful for the reminder that Jesus is our Prince of Peace and that He is called that for a reason.

Peace is a gift from our Lord. When we put our worries in God’s hands, He will put peace in our heart. Let us worship the Prince of Peace as HE IS the One who wants to fill our life with this precious gift of peace. HE IS God at all times, for He always has been, and He always will be.

I love the Psalm you quoted at the beginning! It inspires one of my favorite songs, “Oh My Soul (10,000 Reasons)” And I love what you said about REALLY pondering the different names of Jesus; they DO each mean a different and amazing aspect of our Savior… He is SO infinitely much more than we can ever imagine!! Thanks 🙂
